Walked It Like He Talked It
Daddy was a preacher man
I his only child
Everywhere he spoke
He broke records for most souls
Walking the aisle
They were walking the aisle
That little city I grew up in
Watched him like a hawk
If there's one thing
People would rather get than rich
It's getting dirt on a man of the cloth
Man of the cloth
I never heard a mumbling word about him
He wasn't perfect but i'd swear by him
He could look straight into the eyes he met
Because he walked it like he talked it (2x)
The first time a black man tried to join the church
A bunch of God fearing Christians
Thought coloreds had their place
And there weren't nothing worse
Than a black man in the church
But my daddy always told me
Men are made the same
Color doesn't matter discrimination's
Nothin' but the devil's game, the devil's game
The congregation didn't really
Want to have to chose
And I'd rather have been anywhere
Than in my daddy's shoes
Cause if he let him in some heavy tithers said they'd quit
But he walked it like he talked it (2x)
And if the reward is a star
For everything we do that's right
Daddy's out there somewhere dancing in the light
He's just dancing in the light
I never heard a mumbling word about him
He wasn't perfect but i'd swear by him
He could look straight into the eyes he met
Because he walked it like he talked it (2x)
