Soul of the city

In the soul of the city

People meet out late at night

There's a girl named Wanda

Seems she's she's been working there all her life

It's coming five in the morning

Just before the dawn

A man with whisky in his eyes

Sees her for the beauty that she once was

In the soul of the city

And sometimes she wonders why she ever left home

For these mountains of steel these canyons of stone

Searching for something she had all along

Now she feels lost and alone

In the soul of the city

The working man stops his day

Wanda rolls over to another empty face and then turns away

There's donuts on the pantry shelf

And coffee on the stove

Made yesterday for a traveling man

That said he just had to go

In the soul of the city

And sometimes she wonders why she ever left home

For these mountains of steel these canyons of stone

Searching for something she had all along

Now she feels lost and alone

In the soul of the city

The neon sun comes up

There's a young girl man she's running scared

And running out of luck

In the soul of the city

Now she's getting on a bus

And she's bound for home

From these mountains of steel these canyons of stone

Back to the love that was there all along

She found her heart without losing her soul

In the city...yeah...

oooooooohhhhhhh....

In the soul of the city
